Lander has a wide variety of scholarships available for future teachers. These include, but are not limited to: 

The Mary Kinard Able Scholarship is available yearly to a junior or senior from Greenwood, Laurens, or Newberry county majoring in elementary education. The scholarship is renewable provided the recipient maintains at least a 3.0 GPA.

The Elizabeth Adams Scholarship is available yearly to a science major planning to teach. The scholarship is renewable provided the recipient maintains a 2.7 GPA.

The Margaret "Peggy" Scruggs Andrews Scholarship is available yearly to education majors who exhibit need, merit, Christian character, and commitment. Recipients must also actively participate in the Lander University Baptist Collegiate Ministry organization.

The Atheneum Study Club Scholarship is available yearly to Greenwood County student who intends to teach in public schools.

The Mary Lander Bell Scholarship is available yearly to students majoring in teacher education. Preference will be given to students demonstrating financial need. The scholarship is renewable provided the recipient maintains minimum requirements for the teacher education program.

The Sarah Kate "Sally" Lang Blaes Scholarship is available yearly to a  student from Greenwood County majoring in education. Selection will be based on financial needs. The scholarship is renewable for up to three years provided the recipient maintains minimum requirements for the teacher education program.

The Madison and Frances Patton Breland Scholarship is available yearly to a student from Greenwood County majoring in education. Selection will be based on financial needs. The scholarship is renewable for up to three years provided the recipient maintains minimum requirements for the teacher education program.

The Mary Alice Cox Burnett Scholarship is available yearly to deserving junior or senior education major who resides in South Carolina. The scholarship may be renewed provided GPA is maintained.

The Debbie Jeanne Burton is awarded yearly to students interested in helping those with disabilities. Preference will be given to students in the area of special education. Selection will be based on merit and need, and the scholarship is renewable provided the recipient maintains an acceptable GPA. Application is required.

The Mary Z. Calhoun Scholarship is available yearly with preference given to students who plan to pursue a teaching career.

The Maude K. Carter Education Scholarship is awarded yearly to students majoring in education. Students must have financial needs, academic ability, outstanding character, and potential to develop into good citizens.

The Earline Buzhardt Clark is awarded yearly to a rising junior majoring in education/teacher certification. The recipient must have a cumulative GPR of 3.0 upon entering the junior year and maintain a 3.0 GPA to renew the scholarship. The recipient must also exhibit a strong desire and potential to be an excellent teacher.

The Elizabeth Eble Scholarship is awarded annually to a student majoring in education.

The Martee T. Edwards – awarded annually from fund income to a rising senior majoring in elementary education. The recipient must exhibit both a strong potential and an earnest desire to be an excellent teacher of children in the early grades. The recipient must also be of high moral character and must have an above-average academic standing. Financial need will be of secondary consideration.

The Eddie Griffin Scholarship – awarded annually from fund income to an entering freshman majoring in education/teacher certification with emphasis given to those students in the area of math and science, who possess leadership skills. Scholarships will be continued provided the recipient maintains a cumulative GPA of 3.0.

The William Kenneth Henderson Scholarship – is awarded annually from fund income to a needy student transferring from a technical college.

The Hattie Henry Scholarship is awarded annually to a full-time junior or senior education major. The scholarship is renewable provided the recipient remains a full-time student and maintains a minimum 2.7 GPA.

The Bettie Rose Horne Scholarship is awarded to students who have at least a 2.75 GPA and are majoring in teacher education. This scholarship is renewable.

The Harry P. Irwin Scholarship is awarded annually to a rising senior pursuing a career in secondary education.

The Shirley Johnson Scholarship is awarded to an elementary education major entering his/her junior year at Lander (i.e., student may receive a scholarship for both junior and senior years). The recipient will have a cumulative GPR of 3.0 upon entering the junior year and will be expected to maintain a 3.0 average. The student selected to receive this scholarship should demonstrate a commitment to the academic discipline and leadership. 

The Dearyl Lusk Scholarship is awarded yearly to an education major of high moral character who demonstrates financial need.

The Jeff May Scholarship is awarded annually to an education major who is a member of one of the 11 intercollegiate teams. The recipient will be selected on merit and need. The scholarship is renewable provided the recipient maintains a 2.5 GPA.

The Orvy May Scholarship – awarded to entering freshmen and are renewable provided recipients maintain a 2.5 GPA. Recipients will be selected on merit, need, and citizenship.

The Elizabeth K. McKelvey Education Scholarship is awarded from fund income to students majoring in education. Students must have financial needs, academic ability, outstanding character, and potential to develop into good citizens.

The Viola Hunt Norris Scholarship is awarded to a student majoring in education. The scholarship will be renewable provided the recipient maintains minimum requirements for the teacher education program.

The Jo Beth Owings Ouzts Scholarship is awarded to education majors.

The Cindy Bogerro Polatty Scholarship is awarded to a Greenwood County resident who is majoring in education.

The Wilma Wilson Reeves Education Scholarship is awarded annually to a student from Abbeville County majoring in education. Selection is based on academic achievement and financial needs.

The Rebecca Bostic Riley Scholarship is awarded to a rising junior education major from Laurens or Newberry County with preference given to Laurens County.

The Scott and Judy Smith Scholarship – awarded to a student majoring in education. Selection will be based on financial needs and academic merit. 

The Clara Stroud Scholarship is awarded to women who intend to teach.

Student Education Association (SEA) Scholarship is awarded to a rising senior majoring in early childhood or elementary education.

The Ann Bowen Warner Scholarship is awarded annually to a Greenwood County undergraduate and/or graduate student(s). The scholarship is renewable provided the recipient(s) maintains a 2.5 GPA for undergraduate students or 3.0 GPA for graduate students.

The Mary Taylor Waters Scholarship is awarded to students majoring in early childhood education.

The Carolyn Sue White Scholarship is awarded to students pursuing a degree in special education.

The Scottie White Scholarship is awarded to an education major.

The Thelma W. Whitener Scholarship is awarded annually to a Greenwood area student showing the need and majoring in secondary education.

The Sharon Jones Williams Scholarship is awarded to nontraditional, female students enrolled in the schools of education and business administration. Scholarships will be awarded annually from fund income.

Work study opportunities at Lander University are available or the candidate can choose to find employment while enrolled.

Through the South Carolina Teaching Fellows program, Lander recruits talented high school seniors into its teacher education program. Teaching Fellows receive scholarships for four years, and in return they agree to teach in South Carolina one year for every year they receive the funds. Learn More.

Through Call Me MISTER (Mentors Instructing Students Toward Effective Role Models), students from backgrounds that are under-represented in the teaching profession can receive financial, educational, and social support in order to complete any of our programs that serve students in grades kindergarten through the eighth grade. MISTERs agree to teach one year in South Carolina schools for each year of financial support.

Students who participate in this initiative receive the following:

• Tuition assistance through a loan forgiveness program. For each year a student receives assistance, the student teaches in South Carolina. For example, if a student receives assistance for four years, he/she teaches for four years.
• An academic support system to help assure success.
• Social support of other participants.
• An opportunity to network with participants from other universities at conferences and paid summer institutes.
